Plant Name Habit Zone Rate Color Description
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Barabits Requiem' Weeping 6 Large Green A distinctive, attention-grabbing, sculptural tree, this cultivar from Hungary develops pendulous branches similar to the well-known 'Pendulum.'  It becomes a wider, more vigorously weeping shape, though, and in winter, its foliage takes on rich, bronze tones. Limited Availability
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Blauer Eichzwerg' Upright Broad 7 Dwarf Bluish Green A small giant? Yep, this scaled down variation on the Giant Redwood "theme" makes a wide, broadly pyramidal shrub or small tree. Short, densely compressed, blue-green needles extend the beauty and mystery of ancient forests to small gardens. Limited Availability
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Glaucum' Upright Narrow 6 Large Bluish Green This large, Giant Redwood cultivar grows more slowly than the species and maintains a more narrow form. Alone or with others in a cluster or a line, it makes a majestic, bluish-green windbreak, privacy screen or striking backdrop.
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Greenpeace' Upright Broad 6 Large Green The iconic Giant Sequoia, a tree restricted in nature to a limited area of the western Sierra Nevada in California, is among the largest of trees. This selection develops the massive dimensions and habit of the species, but it features foliage that is richer green and has a subtle variation in arrangement that gives the tree a more refined look. Site the towering giant in a spacious landscape. Limited Availability
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Hazel Smith' Upright Broad 6 Large Bluish Green This cultivar shares the typical, large, pyramidal form of the species, but it boasts blue foliage and better hardiness than the species.  Selected by Don and Hazel Smith of Watnong Nursery, New Jersey, the dramatic tree was named to honor Mrs. Smith posthumously.
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Little Stan' Upright Broad 7 Dwarf Bluish Green 'Little Stan' stays perpetually young. Even with age, the very slow-growing, upright tree keeps its juvenile needles, rather than developing typical scale-like, adult foliage. The seedling selection from Nelis Kools, Netherlands, is an unusual and useful conifer that lends great character to small gardens. Hardiness increases with maturity; prefers well-drained soil. Limited Availability
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Pendulum' Weeping 7 Large Green On a frosty Halloween night, you might imagine spooky eyes on this unforgettable garden personality. In daylight, the adaptable "Dr. Seuss" tree seems more friendly, with welcoming arms decked out with curtains of foliage. The main trunk grows mostly upright; then it will dip, droop, and grow upright again. Secondary branches also bob and weave, giving the tree apparent movement. Thick drapes of rich, green foliage conceal bark that is thick and fire resistant.
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Powder Blue' Upright Broad 6 Large Blue This full-size Giant Sequoia, among the largest of conifers, produces startling, powdery-blue foliage. The massive tree develops an open habit and wider girth than Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Glaucum', with a main, upright leader and horizontal lower branches that become pendulous with age. Give the striking, mammoth tree, with awl-shaped, light-blue foliage, plenty of room to grow.
