It withstands snow loads much better because its branches are sturdier and they are held more tightly to the trunk than other types. Sciadopitys verticillata 'Mitsch Select'	Upright Broad	5	Dwarf	Green	This dense, slow-growing selection of Japanese Umbrella Pine has a definite leader when young, but broadens with age. Short, dark-green needles and a compact stature distinguish the beautiful cultivar. It was selected by John Mitsch, Aurora, Oregon, a plantsman who generously shared new plants with Jean Iseli and other conifer enthusiasts.
Sciadopitys verticillata 'Winter Green'	Upright Broad	5	Large	Green	'Winter Green' is an improved cultivar with size and shape similar to the species. As the name indicates, the beautiful foliage retains its dark, glossy green through winter. A seedling selection from Sydney Waxman, University of Connecticut.
