'Big
Tuna' |
Boldly textured, medium length needles make this sturdy, upright, multi-stemmed tree a favorite for areas in the landscape with a little more room. The slow-growing trees become taller than wide and quite bushy. Very hardy and uniquely dense, 'Big Tuna' is compact, but not dwarf. Buds turn showy during cold winter months and stand out distinctly against dark green foliage. |

| Pinus mugo 'Colunaris' |
A very narrow, upright mugo pine, this cultivar is perfect for tight landscape spaces where a strong vertical accent is appropriate. Conspicuous buds, coated with white, waxy resin, stand out against long, dark green needles in winter, and colors intensify as the seasons change. The compact columnar habit is open enough to show off interesting reddish orange bark. Plants reliably produce small ornamental cones too. |

| Pinus mugo 'Donna's Mini' |
Even mature and established, this super-slow-growing, evergreen button won’t outgrow a trough or rock garden. Its green needles are very short, only 5/8 inch long, and they cover the thickly held branchlets densely, producing a dome-shaped plant with a very smooth overall texture. Discovered at Iseli Nursery, this TRUdwarf® mugo resembles a small sea urchin or pin cushion. Limited availability, rare. |

Pinus mugo
'Pot o' Gold' |
Spring
through summer, this lovely mounding dwarf mugo pine stays neat,
tidy and compact. As fall comes to a close and winter approaches,
'Pot o' Gold' begins to glow, faintly at first then a bright lemon
yellow by mid winter. The clear yellow is very strong through the
season, fading back to emerald green as spring begins. 'Pot o' Gold'
forms a tight, rounded mound with age, slightly larger than 'Mops'
but with an added benefit of true winter radiance. A new Iseli selection. |

| Pinus mugo 'Short Needle' |
Sometimes the best prize comes in the smallest package. Such is the case for this tiny, quintessential alpine conifer. An extremely slow-growing introduction from Iseli Nursery, it stands out among mugo pines for the unusually tiny needles covering very short branches. Many visible buds punctuate the foliage and contribute to the dynamic presence of this dense, slightly irregular, miniature bun. |

Pinus mugo
'Tannenbaum' |
Finally...a
perfectly shaped, tough-as-nails dwarf pine tree for the colder,
more demanding areas of the country. This living 'Christmas tree'
was the one we selected as the finest among hundreds in the mugo
seedling trial beds of McCrory Gardens, South Dakota State University,
Brookings. We chose and named 'Tannenbaum' for its compact, pyramidal
form, good winter color and of course, hardiness. The original plant
measured l0-ll feet tall and 6 feet wide at the base when it was
25 years old. |
