Cathaya argyrophylla	Upright Broad	5	Large	Green	Known only as a fossil until Chinese botanists discovered living plants in 1955, this rare Chinese conifer was then seen as a valuable national resource and strictly prohibited from export. When restrictions eased, Iseli Nursery was able to secure seeds, opening the opportunity for it to be available for gardeners in the western world. Long, shiny green needles arranged in umbrella-like tiers give the large, multi-trunked tree a tropical look, similar in appearance to Sciadopitys. Protect it from a heavy snowload.
